As a breeder of Goldendoodles I am approached by both golden retriever and standard poodle breeders often. They all ask the same questions, why am I mixing two wonderful breeds? Why not keep the golden a golden and the standard a standard?

My reply is, why breed two related dogs to achieve a certain trait. We as people don't in breed do we? Why is it acceptable to in breed dogs? They call it line breeding.  Call it what you want it is, what it is. By in breeding they are creating an inferior animal or a genetic nightmare. It may look pretty and meet all the criteria for the show ring but, does it make a good family member?  I feel that by breeding two unrelated dogs with all the attributes that make a wonderful family member this will ensure that the pup NEVER ends up in the pound.  In my eyes there are no bad dogs, rather misinformed breeders or owners. My intention is not to insult or belittle anyone only to educate or rather enlighten.
